Police responding to a suspected drink driver in Ventnor got more than they bargained for yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) when they discovered cocaine, a Stanley knife, a hammer and various stolen items inside a car.
Officers were deployed to Ventnor Town Centre at just after 15:00 following a 999 call reporting that a male was suspected of drink driving.
A silver Vauxhall Astra cabriolet was seen exiting Central Car Park the wrong way, against oncoming traffic.
The vehicle was stopped in the layby outside Tesco Express and a search was conducted.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says that suspected Class A drugs (cocaine), a Stanley knife, a hammer and various suspected stolen items were located inside.
A 36-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, drug driving, possession of class A drugs, theft and possession of an offensive weapon.
He remains in custody at this time.

Hardly a surprise as he’s well known to them. Done time for robbing paddingtons inthe past amongst other things. How he even had a license is beyond belief! Scum.
Put it out of its missury, what a stinking country we now live in…..
Well done to the police for catching this scumbag drug dealer. Also, whoever reported initially a big hats off to them as well. Let’s hope it will result in keeping this piece of dirt off the streets.
Last time I tried to call 999 to report a drunk driver they told me to not waste their time and call 101. I did. Took 40 mins to get through and they said they would ‘look into it’. Too weeks later they called me to say the driver had insurance and was legit to drive. I mean…
Ironic isn’t it? As if we haven’t got enough scum of our own, we get scum from the mainland coming over here, thinking they can get away with criminal intent, with the idea they can scoot back over there and get away with it. TOUGH LUCK SCUMMY DIDN’T WORK DID IT!
He’s not from the mainland. Been in ventnor and around for years. Scum. Let’s hope they throw away the key. Car untaxed anyway so not insured. The list of offences gets longer.
Most baddies are Caulkheads not Overners.
He may have moved there. In the last year or so he hasn’t been around a lot, only to see his kids I guess. He certainly doesn’t live in Ventnor anymore.
Well done whoever called the Police on this scum bag. This is what the island would have a lot more of if we got a fixed link…… unfortunately! I know, not what people want to hear but it’s true.
No need to worry because there will never be a “fixed link”. The reasons have been explained in detail on here hundreds of times. Basically, it would cost a ridiculously high amount of money and never pay for itself. Far too expensive to ever be funded so just forget about it.
He’s not from the mainland despite what the report says. He’s local. Probably just a registered address.
And he’s out already. What a fine police force and justice system we have in place!
You are kidding. I know the guy and best thing for everyone (including himself) would be to lock him up for a year. Drug driving, having a weapon, drugs in car (no intent to supply though) and theft. Considering his record how have they released him?
This is the result of interfering so gooders. All the ofences we have just read about on here and they STILL have to let him go. If I didn’t pay my council tax, some gorilla would be smashing my door down placing me under arrest. And the law tells us to ”Have faith”. I don’t think so, sorry. Not with scum like this being aloud to walk free. No bloody way. What the sodding hell is this if it’s not aiding and abetting and protecting the scum instead of us, the victims.
It’s definitely a CSE not a B.Sc. You can’t spell the word ‘Allowed’ correctly.
Maybe you need to read up on police and legal procedures before commenting. The police can only keep a suspect in custody for a certain amount of time before they must be charged or released, any extensions have to be authorised by the courts.Perhaps the Police should enlist all the “experts” on Island Echo as they are clearly better qualified.
Friend of his by any chance. If not, then obviously bitter about the comments on here.
No, just someone who worked in the Criminal Justice System for 25 years and before you make any comments, it was on the right side of the law.
Lawlessness is everywhere because there is no fear of appearing in court. The government ties the courts hands and meaningful sentences are not imposed. No wonder we’ve got men like this driving about. All a court appearance means these days is a badge of honour for the criminal.
