jobcentresignThe amount of unemployed Islanders claiming Jobseekers Allowance has increased once again, figures released today (Wednesday) show.

In total, 1808 residents were claiming JSA during November, a rise of 205 since October. However, year on year there are 1204 less Islanders claiming JSA compared to 2013.

The rise was expected as the Island’s winter trading period begins, however many locals say the large drop of claimants between 2013 and 2014 is due to strict sanctions being imposed by the Jobcentre.
