The previous year the Island was in lockdown.
What was the % decrease in crime in March 2020-March 2021 compared to a ‘normal year’ the year before?
Good point
Drug offences down 14%. WHAT? The place stinks of them!
THE NUMBER OF DRUG OFFENCES has fallen simply because the Police have not taken action. Members of the public frequently reporting drug dealing going on in their neighbourhoods have been repeatedly ignored – the unchecked growth of this crime has led to a general increase in related crimes.
This has especially been the case among the young and vulnerable, who cannot always afford their habit any more than control it.
Many local residents, such as myself, after being ignored for so long, now have a very poor opinion of the Police, who have allowed this crime to flourish.
…But what can we do ?
I agree they could probably double or triple the drug offences tally should they put more resources into it.
Also drugs are probably at the root of many other offences which have increased a lot, but I doubt they double-count.
Hardly surprising when the punishment is a £20 fine for murder
Within this last year, the isle of wight has turned into murder island.
thats the island and its people
So Island critic, what makes you think that these are islanders?? A percentage of these crimes could be from mainlanders moving to our once quite island. So before you start blaming islanders why don’t you just shut your mouth it’s people like you that wind me up hiding behind a key board!! You muppet!!
They all do that because they are bored and there is nothing else to do. never known a breed like the islander
What is your problem? Why are you so down about the island? This island has some of the most beautiful scenery and people in the uk! You get DRINK and drug problems, some bad eggs in society, corrupt councillors and other people in authority no matter where you are in the country. Infact the Isle of Wight has one of the lowest crime rates in the uk. What makes the Isle of Wight such a bad place to you…too many failed relationships? You were once an addict of some kind? Mistreated and neglected as a child? Mummy daddy issues? Most of us here on the island love it and most probably moved here from the shitty mainland. Home is where the heart is after all
These are typical islanders
You are a complete idiot why do you even comment is it because you are a sad individual and have no life .it’s down to less police and government cuts and there was only 1 murder
Best thing to do is ignore you .. you’re really not worth the effort of responding to. Get yourself a placard and spout off outside Parliament might make yourself more useful than you are on here – you’re not worth the steam off peoples pee matey !
That’s just what’s reported, most fights between gangs of 14yr – 25yr olds often over drugs etc don’t . Have you tried calling 101?. You cannot remain anonymous anymore either, so loads also don’t get reported – on the Island snitches sometimes means you do get stitches . What’s point as others say when get to Court they get let off with petty fine. So many reoffenders. More forced labour working prisons are needed that self fund !.
the only finger pointing with this lays firmly at our awful corrupt council…taking cash back hander for scummy mainland overspill and housing them here.
islands gone down pan for long time.
not pleasant too live here anymore and before the judgmental plebs comment…..most CANT move away!
This is a disgrace! What are the police doing to protect us!!!!
What surprises me most about this article is the fact that the police are actually bothering to record crime. After all, they don’t bother investigating it.
Will our highly paid Police Crime commissioner issue a sound bite.
She can’t afford the time, got another gateaux to cram in.
Going to happen when all the unemployable trash is moved from over crowded cities to rural areas. Crime is installed in these people before they’re moved. Another government failing.
