Rising darts star Joe Hunt enjoyed an outstanding run in Wigan yesterday (Tuesday), defeating a string of top-ranked players to reach the last 8 of Players’ Championship 10.
The Isle of Wight’s Joe Hunt produced one of the best performances of his career to reach the quarter-finals.
Hunt began by dispatching Belgium’s Mike De Decker, the world No 18, with a commanding 6-2 victory. He followed that with a 6-4 win over former PDC World Youth Champion Ted Evetts to move into the last 32.
The Islander then claimed one of the standout results of the day, defeating world No 8 Stephen Bunting 6-4.
In the last 16, Hunt edged past Northern Ireland’s world No 7 Josh Rock in a deciding-leg thriller, sealing a 6-5 win.
His impressive run was ended in the quarter-finals, where he was beaten 6-4 by world No 21 Luke Woodhouse.
The tournament was won by Dutchman Wessel Nijman, who defeated Scott Waites 8-2 in the final.
After collecting £4,000 in prize money, Hunt said:
“I’m proud of myself for the last few days. For once, I felt comfortable whoever I was playing. Thank you so much to everyone messaging and watching.”
