Forget about burning your bras – the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance are asking you to save them for recycling, in order to raise vital funds to keep the Air Ambulance flying and saving lives.
Now in its seventh year, Bag a Bra Day has become a highlight of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight fundraising calendar and this year the annual event will take place on 21st May 2015.
Recycling is the charity’s second biggest single source of income, and every year Bag a Bra Day generates significant funds, whilst also raising awareness for their on going recycling campaign.
All donated bras are collected by Bag It Up Ltd , the charity’s recycling partner, and shipped to West Africa for resale at affordable prices by street traders. Being able to wear a bra gives women status and helps to improve their self esteem; two very emotive reasons for donating an unwanted bra or two.
Alex Lochrane, Chief Executive, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance commented:
“By donating your unwanted bras, you are helping us, not only to save lives across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, but also to enable individuals abroad to buy affordable bras”.
Unwanted bras should be bagged and taken to the nearest charity textile recycling bank (pictured right).
Details of the location of recycling banks throughout Hampshire and the Isle of Wight can be found at:
