Conservative Party members on the Isle of Wight have reacted following North Essex MP Kemi Badenoch’s victory in the political party’s leadership race over the weekend.
The former business secretary was declared the new Conservative Party leader on Saturday (2nd November), defeating rival Robert Jenrick by 53,806 votes to 41,388.
Whilst she is the 4th woman to lead the Conservative Party after Margaret Thatcher, Theresa May and Liz Truss, Baddenoch is the first black woman elected to lead a major political party here in the United Kingdom.
In her maiden speech as leader, the North Essex MP said that her party had to ‘tell the truth’ and ‘stand up for our principles’. Baddenoch also said that the party needed to ‘reset its politics’ and ‘renew’.
Isle of Wight East MP Joe Robertson, who is one of just 121 Tory MPs in Parliament, said that Kemi’s election was a ‘landmark moment’ and that she has already pledged to guide the Tories in a ‘new direction’.
“The Conservatives have made history by electing the first Black woman to lead a major European party. This is a landmark moment for Britain. During her recent visit to East Wight, Kemi Badenoch demonstrated her commitment to addressing our nation’s challenges with a fresh perspective.
“Known for her direct and pragmatic approach, she has already pledged to guide us in a new direction, learning from past mistakes and setting a course for renewal. I am particularly pleased to see the appointment of Mel Stride as Shadow Chancellor.
“It is essential that all MPs work together to rebuild public trust. Now is the time for unity and collective effort.”
Taking to Facebook after the news was announced, former Island MP Bob Seely, said:
“I am delighted that UK Conservatives have elected Kemi Badenoch as our new leader. This is great news for everyone apart from the Labour Party.
“Her message; tell the truth, stand for principles, time to renew. Well done, Kemi, a conviction Conservative.
“There’s work to do, so let’s get started.”
Seely – the Island’s sole parliamentary representative between 2017-2024 – helped organise Badenoch’s recent Isle of Wight visit last month. The pair entered parliament together on the same day at the start of Seely’s tenure.
A post on the Isle of Wight Conservative Facebook page reads:
“Congratulations to Kemi Badenoch who was elected as our new leader of the Conservative Party today. A perfect time to start our return to government as the Conservative Party overtakes Labour in polls for the first time in nearly 3 years.”
This will just result in another Labour term
or a Deform win.
Makes no difference just woke lefty same ol same ol politics nothing will come of it ..
I don’t think woke lefty is a very good description of this woman. Far from it in fact.
sounds like you don’t have much understanding of politics, or the CONservative party…
‘the North Essex MP said that her party had to ‘tell the truth’’
Yet they withheld information from the OBR in March regarding their £9.5bn overspend and thereby breaking the law. Seems there wasn’t much truth being told by her party then.
Politicians do not understand the meaning of the
word “TRUTH”
Baddenoch .. said that her party had to ‘tell the truth’ and ‘stand up for our principles’
well make up your mind woman,.. which one ??
Tory Principles and Telling the Truth are mutually exclusive!
and what would half-sausage seely know of either Truth, or Conservative Party principles ?
he, who in desperation to get voted in again, pleeded with his own party to reject their own pronciples and regulate the ferry companies.
(he was, of course, shot-down with “NO, we conservatives don’t do that. we like companies to make extreme profits from exploiting the public”)
Badenoch will make Starmer and the rest of his cronies look the complete incompetents they have proved to be already. Just wait until Trump shoves Starmer and Lammy back under their rocks.
Trump won because he looks after the people of the
Country, they have had enough of being worse off
under the Democrats, under Trump they will be better off.
Let this be a lesson to The Labour Party
taking pensioners fuel allowances away from them and
increasing business rates etc is not a popular move.
I don’t see Labour winning the next election,
obviously before the next election they will reduce things
to make it look good, but the damage is already done.
I have always voted Labour – NEVER again!!.
Who cares about our politicians who do
nothing for us.
Any news on them sorting out the Ferries! NO
We should be celebrating the glorious win for
America.
Donald Trump is a peoples person, he represents
the people of America.
“Donald Trump … represents the people of America”
Ha, Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha,
the only person Donald Trump ‘represents’, is Donald Trump !!!
Everything he says or does is said or done solely to boost his own ego, wealth and invunerability…
He doesn’t do what is ‘good for America’ (and especially not what is good for the planet, or the rest of the world,) He does what makes him popular
it’s like the Tories,. cutting taxes & making people think their better off, while simultaniously trashing (or allowing to be trashed) the NHS and all other public services… (and making sure they and their benfactors ARE really better off)
It seems to me to be fashionable not to like strong leaders.
yes,.. unfortunately, being a strong leader and working for what is best for the country in the long term,… is not as popular as making people think they are going to be better off (even if they really won’t be)
Why is Seely always quoted? He is old news. He was only interested in himself when he was MP so who cares what he thinks now. There is a new Conservative MP on the Island and Seely should have the grace to stop cramping his style.
Why do my likes up or down disappear?
