Plans have been launched to list Hulverstone’s The Sun Inn as a community asset, local MP Bob Seely has announced. MP Seely says he is keen to get The Sun Inn listed as an asset of community value to secure its future and make it more difficult for anyone to turn it into a house. The country pub, situated in the hamlet of Hulverstone, was put on the local property market at the start of December last year. Island MP Bob Seely has said:
“I believe there is strong local support for such a measure. “The formal request for listing as an ‘asset of community value’ has to come from an organisation or the Parish Council. “Councillor John Nicholson, the Island head of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has kindly offered to request if need be, but I am asking firstly Brighstone Parish Council, as the elected body, to do so. “I have offered to write the justification which will need to accompany the request. “We are not legally obliged to present a petition, but a local show of support for the Sun Inn campaign will strengthen our case with the Isle of Wight Council, which will need to agree the bid. I’ve spoken to the Chief Executive of the Isle of Wight Council and the Council is now expecting the request. “I have also spoken to Brook Councillor Cllr Roy Haviland and he has promised to speak to the committee of Seely Hall, Brook, to see if they would also be supportive. I also spoke with Hulverstone and Brook residents. “I and others strongly believe that the pub could/should be a viable and popular business.”

Good old no idea Bob. He now wants to remove National Insurance as he said on live TV a few days ago, meaning he doesn’t want anyone to have a pension, as that’s one of the main reasons NI is collected. He also, as demonstrated here, doesn’t know how pubs are run and managed.
God,this idiot has no idea about priorities does he!
what about lack of housing for families?
what about sky high ferry prices?
what about the water companies pumping sewage into the sea?
what about doing your job?
oh hold on,he is more interested in stripping prince harry of his title
the sooner you go the better!
you have done nothing for the island, you an abhorrent, self serving, little amoeba!
Nice one Bob, this is a lovely old pub, and to lose it to housing would be tragic. For despite the Council only concerned with building ever more houses here to increase their ‘pot’ of money to then be able to award themselves larger salaries and expenses, the Island, may once again need the tourist trade, and assets such as genuinely old British pubs need to be at the forefront of attractions to encourage people here.
So many new pubs, purporting to be old, or pubs which are old, but have had all the character stripped away are poor compared to pubs like the Sun Inn.
When driverless cabs fill our roads, then, once again out of town pubs may have a revival with people then able to be taken from pubs after a few pints in safety
You are kidding right?
With no NHS dentistry on the Island, our seas full of sh*t, cost of living crisis, sky high ferry prices, and so much more seriously wrong with the country, you are lauding this political waste of space because he wants to save a ruddy pub?
Don’t forget Junior Doctors, Railway’s,post office scandal, imagration, education, universal credit, police, courts and wars in Gaza, Ukraine and Africa yet he’s using tax payers money worrying about a pub. If war comes to our shores we ain’t going to worry about a pub.
the “cost of living crisis” is pure cope by people who live outside their means
A driverless cab would be a truly terrifying experience on the island with all the drugged up idiots tearing around the roads.
Just the sort of comment a retired, financially secure, deluded, brainwashed tory supporter would say,he probably lives next door to it!
Well as we all know Bob loves his sausages ! So much so that he ignored covid restrictions to pop round his neighbours to get one perhaps he feels the need to keep half a sausage nearby at all times !
all he is thinking about is £££££ for himself sod the island
Yikes, talk about blatant electioneering! Great for Hulverstone of course, but he’s only doing it in an attempt to get more votes in his “new” constituency area whilst doing very little for the rest of the Island. His biggest failure of course has been sorting out the ferries, oh yes, he raised it in Parliament, got the brush off and did noting more about it. Then there was his ‘so called’ Island deal. What have we got out of it eh? For a government that promotes “levelling up” there is very little signs of any here, we are not impressed Bob!
Yet again, Brainless Bob demonstrates his grasp of his constituent’s priorities.
No doubt he has a plan for how to raise the funds to buy the pub, since listing only gets you 6 months to raise a bid. Still, we know how thorough Tory planning is …
If you want to save pubs add selling safe weed to their licence. Will kill the illegal drug trade in one swoop and save so many pubs.
Well done Pop Up Bob .. looking after your own interests first .. and ignore the rest the true sign of a Tory .. get him out !!
Nice place to have a Barbeque Bob
These things are ok but should lapse if the building remains empty for a long time period.
Bob Seely dishes out the kiss of death for then. The man is a fool and a hypocrite of the highest order. Come down to earth and help with REAL issues.
The ‘REAL ISSUES’ are often self inflicted. The dim womb owners from puberty upwards know that by not using any contraception, they will be not standing in a line at the job centre, but then by producing yet another burden, will be furnished with a good income, a free house, free council tax, free education for it’s wombs content and hundreds a week for years, ALL for spreading it’s flabby thighs.
So hardly to shabby a life for the poor, hence the daily flotilla arriving or did you ‘think’ they come for our weather? OR do you ‘think’ at all?
Oh dear what a lovely brainwashed fool you are please keep on believing that everyone who is poor are using the system to avoid the pride of providing for themselves and their families no doubt you watch the gb news right wing people ranting about the boats also maybe we should stop the boats coming to the island ? Then people like yourself will die out eventually yippee
And pre and after people like me die out, your and your children, God forbid you have any, will have a far, far worse life than that I have had, due to your stupidity and thinking being nice is to ruin your country, it’s health, wealth and decency, just to give to a never ending flotilla of ungrateful, crime and disease bringing breeders, who have ruined their own land and now bring the same poverty, disharmony and overcrowding to EVERY area they inflict themselves upon, anywhere on the globe, or is ‘that’ coincidence or white mans fault. Grow up.
Most locals are being pushed out by over building and 2nd homeowners forcing property prices up, so don’t go preaching to me sunshine. I have seen many, many people struggle to pay for basic food and heat, so a pub is hardly a “community asset” REAL ISSUES self inflicted, not so, normal people work hard for the cash they earn and have always been dumped on by the tories, more tax, more stealth taxes. They refused to put a windfall tax on energy companies, why? Oh mainly because Rishi’s gang have the fat fingers of power firmly in that pie. I guess you may have an interest in this place, maybe try going out and about and see how families and people are struggling.
You’re as far removed from reality as Old wheely dealy Seely, best you get back to your gammon news channels and comics.
Every village has always had an idiot the difference these days is the internet has made it possible for them to talk to each other……
So Bob is saying that he “strongly believe that the pub could/should be a viable and popular business.”
The same Bob who is a Conservative.
The same Conservatives who have literally crippled the pub trade.
Marvellous.
Sure, let’s trust some DYEL weakling to lead us, that can’t possibly go wrong
It is an intriguing paradox that an outstanding community asset, in the shape of an island pub, is being defended by a mediocre community handicap, in the shape of Seely.
Community assets never work especially if John Nicholson (Mr Biase) is involved with his band of no good ale drinkers…
Here he is, appealing to his voting demographic of nimby daily mail types who I can pretty much guarantee have hardly ever if at all visited the sun
