Island Line train services between Ryde and Shanklin have been suspended this morning (Wednesday) due to a power supply issue.
South Western Railway advise that engineers are currently investigating an issue with the third-rail power supply. This will involve them inspecting the track between Ryde and Shanklin, wiich may take some time.
Island Echo understands an external power cable has come down across the track between Brading and Smallbrook.
Services are suspended until at least 09:00.
Arrangements have been made to allow tickets to be accepted on Southern Vectis Routes 2 and 3 buses.

Pull it up and put a road in.
And whatever they use the road for will break down. All mechanical things will break down at some time.
Thanks Yoda
Call me stupid…….But why do they need a third rail.
Surely two are sufficient ?
Surely that comment is a joke?
The third rail is to pick up the high voltage for the trains motors
But if a third party power cable fell across the road, the road would still have to close…just like as has happened here with the railway!
If its not one thing its another with those trains. They are always being suspended. Its like when they had a strike the other week, did anyone actually notice??
It is a third party power cable that has fallen across it’s tracks. Island Line for once is not to blame.
Train Driver Rob, you greedy lot are over paid…..Stop Striking….
The reason they are striking is because the people in charge are planning to permanently close every single ticket office in the UK, along with the train guards.
Much more profit for the overseas investors.
Guess they must have had a prepayment meter fitted.
No it’s a Smart meter
Yet they are going to close roads to repair bridges over the hardly used track…..
