Local band Wet Leg have bagged the Songwriter of the Year award at the Ivor Novello Awards.
The prestigious ceremony was held at Grosvenor House in London this week.
The band’s songwriters and fronting duo Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers held off stiff competition from the likes of Florence Welsh, Harry Styles, Matty Healy and Kid Harpoon to add another accolade to their already impressive collection.
As well as the success at the BRITS back in February, the group also received 2 prestigious Grammy awards for Best Alternative Album and Best Alternative Music Performance earlier that month.
Before Christmas, the band performed ‘Wet Dream’ on ITV’s The Jonathan Ross Show and the duo played Coachella earlier this month. Wet Leg will also appear at Reading & Leeds Festivals this Summer.
It’s been a remarkable rise for the Island-born group since their debut song ‘Chaise Longue’ rose to fame back in 2019.
An island success don’t know wether to congratulate the talented pair or have them stuffed and mounted as an endangered species!
Good on them.

I think people are easily pleased in this mundane country at present, where enjoyment is discouraged due to it being Offensive.

Ever thought you might be the one lacking in musical taste?
Not so much lacking in musical taste, just because they have these awards doesn’t make them everybody’s favourite group. There are thousands of groups that are as musically talented as Wet Leg but it all boils down to it being the Music BUSINESS. The beautiful thing about having a powerful management behind you is that you are put forward for these awards and you get support slots to more famous acts. Don’t think that they just got on a tour because they write catchy tunes, money crosses hands to buy the position. It was how it used to work and I don’t suppose things have changed. Everything has to be paid for somewhere along the line so I wish them the best of luck and hope that they have negotiated a fair contact.
