Payments of £326 should now have been received by households across the Isle of Wight to assist with the cost of living, with a second instalment of £324 arriving later this year.
The Government has now paid out £2.4billion to low-income families in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The first payments were made on 14th July but those who are yet to receive their money shouldn’t panic, as payments are continuing until 31st July. Those who are eligible should look out in their bank accounts for a payment of £326 with the reference ‘DWP Cost of Living’.
Those struggling the most will get £1,200 this year to help them with rising costs, including this £650 payment, a £400 grant to help with energy bills and a £150 Council Tax rebate for the 80% of households in bands A-D. In addition to this, nearly 1 in 10 people will get a £150 disability payment this Autumn and pensioners could receive an extra £300 through their Winter Fuel Payments in November and December.
Thérèse Coffey, Work and Pensions Secretary, has said:
“This Government said that we would protect those on the lowest incomes, and we have delivered what we said with over 7 million households receiving £326 in the last week. There is more help to come for households, with the second half of the £650 payment arriving later this year and further payments for pensioners and disabled people also on the way.”
In total, over 8million families will be eligible for this payment, with around 1million eligible because they receive tax credits and no other eligible benefits. These families will receive their first instalment from HMRC in the autumn, and the second instalment in the winter.

ABOUT TIME…..my I phone has needed upgrading for weeks!
Grrr……
Chinky tonight, HAPPY DAYS !
I think the council tax rebate should be fairer and include higher bans as these ppl also have all the surge in prices to contend with ,,, unfair society
The labour party made being a single parent a career choice.
Fred, the very reason we have a staff shortage in the UK.
We have not ‘run out of people’ but all those receiving tax credits and child tax credits only have to work 16 hours per week
So Half a weeks work, and get the rest made up in cash, cheap or free rent and council tax, AND extra handouts such as this, free insulation, free dental care for the whole family free prescriptions etc etc
AND have half the week off to laze on the beach, find a new ‘undeclared’ partner, to pretend to be single parent to up the benefits even more.
The knock on effect is we have less workers, yet more unwanted children only born as to use contraception would cause a drop in income and lifestyle
16 hours work isn’t even 2 days work for most btw.
Oh my eye, I remember a time when if you said you were having a child, or another, people would say ‘Best put in for more overtime mate’, now, as you so rightly say, people do less ‘because’ they have a child or several.
Also, years back, if you had a disabled child, you lived a lesser life than able bodied families.
Now they swan around in new cars, adapted new wet rooms, and with lots of extra benefits payments, almost as if they have ‘blessed’ society with something wonderful, instead of another costly, helpless being to be cared for from cradle to grave.
Not their fault of course, but the benefit payments and working hours for parent, or parents need tightening up.
The DHSS fame, has gone world wide since smart phones, and causes the third world to risk life and limb to climb aboard the gravy train, and the system paid for by us, cannot cope now.

Absolutely, we have to vote labour out of power! They’ve been in power for far to long
Low life on tax credits gain. Most working on the sly cash jobs doing nails massages, hair etc etc. paying little in rent or council tax pretends to be single parents yet rarely if ever sleeps alone
I bet most of the money will be used to support their local pub and a stock of cigarettes or other smokes of choice.
No benefits should be paid as cash, rent should be paid directly to the landlord and the inland revenue given landlords details and claimants should get a debit card which can only be used to buy food and clothing and which must be topped up weekly during an appointment at the job centre.
Long term unemployed should be given work by the council to benefit the community, it is not right that money should be just handed out, it must be worked for.
Reg, many claiming tax credits work on the sly I know, doing cash jobs such as gardening, drug growing and dealing, car repairs / cleaning, painting of houses, dog walking, child minding, and hundreds doing nails, hair, beauty and massages etc.
These people are making a fortune, all tax free, and with free rent and c.tax, free prescriptions and dental care, free school meals etc and all these free handouts, will NEVER take a full time job.
Really needs looking at top level.
They CERTAINLY don’t need or deserve more free cash.
Totally agree however the government should not have allowed LA’S to put up Council tax in the first place!
Everyone is recieving money off their council tax
Only bands A to D
Thank you dwp for the beer vouchers……
Maybe I’m old fashioned. But I go to work for money!!!
EXACTLY!!
Households who work for a living get nothing at all.
Absolutely disgusting use of public money, just throwing it at anyone but workers. This household gets no assistance whatsoever because we work yet our bills keep going up.
£150 off council tax, £400 heating element, is that nothing?
Only fools and horses work.
I couldn’t agree more.I took early retirement at 55 and I’m living the dream.
By not using free contraception a free house is provided as is free council tax free health care free education, free school meals and transportation and uniforms
As well as hundreds a week in child tax credits and if working 16 hours working tax credits too. Child allowance at £20 per child is also given. Add free prescriptions and dental care and food banks it makes working people curious as to where the money is spent.
No wonder the third world arrives in droves to jump on the bandwagon
OK Karen.
Truth is rare to hear, and a tad painful eh Cal?
Mrs t has nailed it
Council Tax is never free, the maximum discount is 65%.
If you’re going to spouth your uncaring right wing views, then please get your facts correct.
So do many others, many on Working tax credits and UC as on low wages, I take it you do not
want the £150 of Council tax and the £400 of of you heating,
Horrible Conservative government, what do they all do sitting in their air conditioned palaces when we need 100,000 affordable homes on the island every year. Out of touch with the real people, scourge of the country, Brexit is killing us ….. oooppps, sorry, just got me cheque.
Most people in receipt of universal credit and other benefits are actually carers of a child, children or a another family member with a severe disability, if society wasn’t so up their own asses and actually thought for a moment about others what a better world this would be. If you look up the statistics of people that are on these benefits you’ll see this. Anyone in recipt of “child benefit” it’s a benefit so you don’t like want it hand it back to the dwp. It was the disabled community in receipt of state benefits that missed out whilst everyone else on universal credit. Everyone is getting help one way or another…stop moaning
I got a free covid test…. That’s about it…
WOW, your brave…..breath of fresh air, The jack boots will be gunning for you.
Rubbish, every social housing road, or estate has countless so called ‘single parents’ claiming most never sleep alone, and many have partners working or growing dope or both hence the large powerful cars outside.
Those few with severe disability have disability payments, a car, or extra funding, so nothing to do with tax credit payments.
Also, why should someone with severe disability need massive payments?
As they are so very disabled they need less than able bodied people, not more.
Seems you are trying to justify the unjustifiable and have been rumbled by wiser posters who KNOW the ropes, not some BBC journalist or MPs.
your so gullable breezer lol.
theres a ton of fakers saying there kids disabled when its not lol
big money earner…a family members at it ,too my annoyance obv!
wake up and stop feeling sorry for the spongers.yes there are genuines.. and yes will recieve help but many many arent.
parents and kids have fake illnesses.
FACT
I would say, going by your mastery of the English language, you maybe special needs yourself.
nope you horrid man im disabled with cognitive issues
The comments here show the media did a great job for the Tory’s in making folk think all people on benefits are freeloading scum. Their benefit p*rn wouldn’t have got many viewers/readers if they didn’t pick the worst of the worst to star in it. People don’t realise the struggles people with genuine needs have to get benefits in the 1st place & then survive on it especially on the Island where you are looking at 10k+ just for rent. The council don’t cover half of that with housing benefit for most even those unable to work because of disability.
I’m fortunate enough to have a business but that doesn’t stop me having empathy
You are wrong. The BBC and most media paint the single parents, the unemployed and the self harmed by drugs, alcohol etc as victims now more than ever.
The trouble is, like yourself, the reporters and presenters don’t actually LIVE amongst these people, so can only, like yourself go on the stats presented before them.
So, when a single mum of several is asked what she gets a week, the answer is of the state benefit, which is more than reasonable to someone who has selfishly not used contraception which is free, and who is so allegedly poor, but selfish enough to impose that lifestyle on her children time and time again.
cont..
Oh & those that think everyone who wants a “free” council house get one are deluded. The waiting list on the Island is ridiculous & private rentals are becoming rarer now there is the influx of 2nd homes & AirB&Bs. One side of my house is a holiday home empty 10 months of the year, the house at the bottom of my garden is empty apart from when they come down to sail in the summer & the two houses the other side are Airb&bs. It’s lovely & quiet but bar me buying my kids a house they will be with me until they have finished their education & get good jobs (if they can find one on our holiday Isle).
cont .. what they don’t tell you is out of that money they don’t have to pay any or much rent, nor council tax, nor school travel, nor prescription costs, nor dental treatment, they receive cheap membership to gyms, spa’s they get free insulation boilers, they don’t have to put by money for home repairs, house insurance
They get free food parcels, they have all week to do as they please, no transportation cost to go to work.
This life is chosen, NOT inflicted by a growing mass of scroungers who will never admit it to the likes of nice, but sadly gullible people like you and the media.
I KNOW for a fact, not sob story fiction.
RUBBISH, So many working class Snobs, all in one place.
IF you want someone to blame for your sad little lives, BLAME the Establishment and the millionaire tax dodgers.
Stop picking on the little people.
YOU GUTLESS WONDERS !
