Island-based creative health charity Independent Arts is inviting residents to share what’s on their minds as part of a new public art installation during Mental Health Awareness Week 2025.
The charity, which is based on Newport High Street, is collecting post-it notes from members of the public to create a growing display in the windows of its Creative Hub throughout May.
The initiative will feature 2 public engagement events on Thursday 23rd May and Wednesday 29th May, between 10:30-11:30, where passers-by can write down their thoughts and add them to the window display.
Independent Arts uses creativity to support a healthier, more connected community on the Isle of Wight. Their workshops aim to improve emotional well-being and physical health for people of all ages.
Activities such as SingAbout and Move & Groove have proven popular across the Isle of Wight. SingAbout is a sociable singing group held weekly in locations including Freshwater Memorial Hall and East Cowes Town Hall, while Move & Groove offers gentle dance and movement sessions every Wednesday morning at 10:45 at the Creative Hub in Newport.
A participant of Move & Groove has said:
“It is a joy to come here, making new friends and improving my physical and mental health all at once.”
Meanwhile, a regular SingAbout attendee commented:
“It is just so uplifting. I always go home in a better mood after singing and seeing my friends!”
Those interested in joining can attend:
- Move & Groove: Wednesdays at 10:45, Creative Hub, Newport
- SingAbout Freshwater: Mondays at 10:15, Memorial Hall
- SingAbout East Cowes: Thursdays at 14:00, Town Hall
