A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson, accused of setting the former Ryde Town Hall on fire.
Police are continuing their investigation into the devastating blaze at the historic town centre building on the evening of 26th August.
As previously reported by Island Echo, around 35 firefighters from across the Isle of Wight raced to Lind Street after smoke was spotted issuing from the upper floors of the Grade II-listed building.
At the height of the incident, 6 pumping appliances, an aerial ladder platform, a water carrier and a command support unit were mobilised.
The fire was concentrated towards the rear of the former theatre building and spread into the roof space, but firefighters managed to prevent the entire building from being destroyed.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that, following enquiries, officers have arrested a 15-year-old boy from Ryde on suspicion of arson.
The teenager has been released on bail, with conditions, until 28th November.
Police say extensive enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the blaze.
