A man has been taken to hospital after falling into the water and injuring himself at Yarmouth Harbour this evening (Saturday).
The casualty was assisted from the icy seas by 2 fellow boat owners, who swiftly called 999 and requested the attendance of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
A local Co-Responder was mobilised to the scene to conduct initial casualty care, with an ambulance crew following closely behind. The injured male was suffering extreme cold as well as injuries from the fall.
Firefighters from Freshwater were requested at the scene to provide lighting and casualty handling.
HM Coastguard were not involved in the incident.
The casualty has since been conveyed by land to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.

How unlucky to happen. Good he is saved now.
Well done to the two boat people who acted swiftly, this man could have easily died without them being in the right place at the right time…
Many thanks to them both….
Well said Truth. But maybe if you have to check your boat at the moment take someone with you & obviously stay safe with masks etc. Glad he’s OK.
Why on earth were the RNLI not called-but no the fire service were instead ??? Really ? There’s a lifeboat sat right there. Glad the gentleman was rescued by the public – congratulations to those fellas.
Sounds like he was out of the water very quickly thanks to his two initial rescuers so maybe no need for coast guard. The Fire/Ambulance Co-Responder is trained to give and gave medical treatment, the fire service were called to provide lighting and will naturally help in any way they can.
It’s more about the RNLI lifeboat ? The incident was clearly given to the ambulance perhaps and then suddenly a fire responder and a fire engine is there despite it being in water. Yes he was fine but surely the safest thing would of been get the person on the lifeboat and await an ambulance. Anyhow glad he’s got some care
You don’t need a life boat if you can reach them from the key side.
What were they all doing out anyway. What happened to STAY HOME PROTECT THE NHS SAVE LIVES.
Visiting their children, working, who knows…..
Some people have no choice, and not all do it by car or bus.
So much for ‘stay home save lives’…. Hope his boating was essential…. Like the windsurfers down at Gurnard…
Hmmm think your find he lives on boat
Exercise is allowed.
Ho, chill out, it’s a good news story for a change. We have read so many sad reports during the last twelve months.
let’s just be thankful we are not posting the usual comments, like sorry and condolence to their loved ones..
This one has an uplifting feeling that we all need at this time..
Still here? Thought you would be in Sunnier climes by now Zoe, with those you love?
Hopefully flight restrictions lifted soon, then you can be happier as we will.
Glad he’s ok, and yes you can walk to your car, boat or what ever you like to get something out of it or clean it or what ever you want to do with it. Don’t think he was intending to fall into the water .
And I’m sure he had a mask on….
