Police on the Isle of Wight are on the hunt for a group of balaclava-wearing men who stormed into a Newport pub armed with an axe and shovels.
The incident happened at The Medina Railway Tavern pub on the corner of Holyrood Street and Sea Street at just before 19:00 on Thursday evening.
Island Echo understands that the armed group of around 5 men – masking their identity with balaclavas – arrived in 2 vehicles under the cover of darkness and proceeded to enter the pub, causing damage to the front door in the process.
It’s thought they were targeting an individual inside the building, not the business itself.
Thankfully, no one inside was injured and the thugs fled the scene in a black BMW shortly afterwards, say Police.
Officers have been investigating the incident over the past 36 hours and continue to conduct enquiries to locate the men involved. So far no arrests have taken place and the group remain at large.
