UPDATED: Hovertravel have suspended their cross-Solent service this morning (Tuesday) due to the adverse weather conditions.
Strong winds mean that Solent Flyer and Island Flyer are unable to safely operate between Ryde and Southsea.
It is unclear at this stage how long the route will remain out of action. The next update will be at 07:00.
Hovertravel say their Captains (Pilots) have the responsibility for whether the conditions are safe for the cross-Solent operation. The Pilots have said that the wind speed on the Solent this morning is above operating limits.
Regular travellers have raised concerns that there will be more suspensions than usual during the winter months now that the older, more reliable hovercraft have been retired.
No other travel operators are reporting delays or cancellations this morning.
UPDATE @ 07:24 – Hovertravel’s service remains suspended this morning. The next update is expected at 07:30.
Meanwhile, Wightlink have advised that their 07:50 car ferry sailing from Yarmouth has been cancelled due to strong winds in the Western Solent.
UPDATE @ 07:30 – Hovertravel say services have now resumed, but delays may still occur due to the strong winds.
