Ryde Inshore Rescue launched to reports of an upturned dingy with possible persons in the water earlier this afternoon (Tuesday), but fears were soon allayed when the item was discovered to be a hot tub cover.
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the independent lifeboat service at 12:35 following reports of a dingy to the west of Ryde Pier.
Just a short while later Ryde Rescue 2 lifeboat was launched and made speed to the scene, arriving by 12:50.
Thankfully, the emergency was quickly stood down when the volunteer lifeboat crew identified the object as a 2m wide round hot tub cover.
If you or someone you know is missing a hot tub cover you can contact Ryde Inshore Rescue to claim.
