HSS Hire in Newport has made a life-saving investment to purchase a fully automatic defibrillator, should any member of the public or staff suffer a cardiac arrest.
Several members of the company’s traffic management team based at the Newport store have been trained in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation in an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest situation.
More than 30,000 cardiac arrests occur out of hospital in the UK every year, yet just 1 in 10 people survive. Immediate CPR and early defibrillation are crucial steps in saving someone’s life.
Defibrillation, together with dialling 999 and performing CPR, can save the life of someone suffering a cardiac arrest. The delivery of an electric shock from the defibrillator is fully automated and is only administered if the device has identified a life-threatening heart rhythm which requires and is suitable for a shock.
Head of Traffic Management for England and Wales, Jeff Anderson said:
“By teaching more people CPR and making defibrillators more accessible to the public, we are helping to give every person the absolute best chance of survival.
“Time and time again defibrillators have proven to be the difference between life and death.
“We are glad to be able to offer our community this life-saving device”.
The defibrillator is available at HSS Hire, 12 Parkhurst Road, Newport.
