A flood alert has been issued for the Eastern Yar following heavy rainfall overnight and throughout this morning (Friday).
The Environment Agency has issued the ‘be prepared’ alert for the Eastern Yar and its tributaries between Whitwell and Bembridge.
10.4mm of rainfall has been recorded at Knighton in the past 24 hours.
Due to industrial action, there is no specific information about how the anticipated flood will affect local homes and businesses.
Islanders should presume that the usual locations will be affected – especially around Sandown and Alverstone – and should avoid entering low lying footpaths and areas prone to flooding.

And they keep wanting to build more properties on the Island.
The Island coastline is crumbling around the Island, every year chunks
fall off.
