There’s a bumper day of entertainment on the cards in Sandown this Saturday (27th July), with the seaside town set to host its annual carnival which leaves Sandown Library at 19:00. The summer holiday fun starts with the children’s carnival parade which sets off from Sandown Pier at 11:00. The procession heads along the seafront to Sandham Gardens where there’s music from Soundwaves Entertainment, comedy and magic from Stevo & Kai and an eagerly awaited set by Marnie Marie, the up-and-coming Island singing talent who performed on the main stage at last month’s Isle of Wight Festival. At 19:00, Sandown’s popular main carnival hits the High Street and makes its way through the town with marching and samba bands, spectacular floats and all the usual festive razzmatazz. Sandown Carnival chair Paul Coueslant has said:
“We can’t wait to welcome everyone to one of the town’s biggest days of the summer, and advise people to arrive early to get a good view of the evening parade.”
To take part in Saturday’s parades and children’s carnival, entrants are asked to assemble and register by Sandown Pier from 10:15. For the Main Carnival, entrants assemble from 17:00, with walking entries registering on the Esplanade near the Sundial Café. Floats line up along Culver Parade between Fort Street and the Library roundabout. Great people still make an effort to dress up and enter into carnivals nowadays, where most all, unless its on a screen are to idle.
So thank you to all who do bother to make these carnivals possible.
Whilst not Notting hill, it does give pleasure to many and long may in continue.
If it is like the Ryde Mardi Gras it will be lovely. It was marvellous to see so many people involved, especially as so many of the children in the procession had been involved in making their costumes.
