Green MP candidate for Isle of Wight East, Vix Lowthion, launched her election campaign in Ryde over the weekend (Saturday). Speaking to a group of supporters at Ryde’s Western Gardens in the Saturday morning sunshine, Lowthion said she wanted to tackle the ferries, encourage the building of cheaper more affordable homes and end no-fault evictions and tackling the discharge of sewage in local waters. Lowthion and her supporters then gave away leaflets and posters before heading to Ryde St John’s Station later in the day. Vix said that the current Conservative government had not taken a stand on the climate, had handled COVID-19 poorly and that Brexit had lessened opportunities for young people. Judging by previous election results, Vix has support on the Island, gaining 12,915 votes back in 2017 and 11,338 in 2019. If she were to be elected come the General Election on 4th July, Lowthion would become the Island’s first ever female MP. Vix is to appear at the joint Island Echo/IW Observer hustings for the Isle of Wight East on Wednesday 19th June at Ryde School. The event will be live-streamed on the Island Echo Facebook page.

I must say not a great fan of all things ‘green’, however their idea of planting miles of prickly gorse hedging around Britain’s coastline to keep the daily flotilla contents from disembarking seems one of their better policies.
The earlier idea to breed lots of spiny crabs, prickly sea urchins, and sword fish to release in the North sea has been dropped, in case it punctured the craft in deeper waters thus causing drowning was thought to be too severe at this stage.
spot on ill go green for that ..like the 10 disagrements ..ye like if on your doorstep..must be woke left snowflake labour lovers..
Your comments are becoming like Dada poetry
This the same Lady who owned then sold what was the old Countryman Pub in Brighstone then abandoned it, sold it to property developers for a whaking profit so they could concrete over more greenfields.
Oh and let’s not forget her partners un-ethical business interests.
Another do as I say not as I do, self serving political climber. No thanks.
encourage the building of cheaper more affordable homes
hardly green is it – encouraging the concreting over of lush green fields
If one has to think on their feet then it might be better to wear sensible shoes.
Champagne socialists the lot of them.
Easy to talk about cheap, affordable homes when they know that they won’t be built in their backyard.
Good lead from the front with letting an empty property fall into disrepair for years before selling it to the highest bidder for a nice tidy sum.
At a guess I would think a nice block of affordable flats could have been built on the site rather than the 4 bedroom oversize monstrosity that is there now, along with the other two or three that have sprung up on the adjacent site.
This woman and affordable housing in the same story, oh the irony.
Brighstones very own village idiot.
The rich Nihilist who expects everyone else to return to the stone age. Is she still with her millionaire offshore partner?
Says that man that thinks burning stuff is the hight of sophistication.
The Greens are a fringe party and the advantage of fringe politics is the liberty to advocate ridiculous things without any expectation of having to make them work. Via Brexit policymaking in defiance of reality has been allowed to go mainstream. Were the Greens to win a majority then many of their policies would be unwound in the face of reality.
The Greens have been focussing on unrelated external events, a foreign conflict where a democratic ally, and important armament development partner, is engaged in a war with a proscribed terrorist group. A strategy to bolster their support by appealing to a sectarian Muslim vote.
Will their focus be on simply keeping a particular ethnic minority onside? Is this good for local issues?
Well said John. And in addition to all that I find it extremely difficult to take seriously someone who calls herself “Vix”. Where did she get that from, and why?
What was all that business a few years ago when she bought the derelict eyesore pub, got planning permission, and then sold it? Anyone know the details?
Yes she believes so much in affordable housing that she sold it to a developer who built 850k houses on it.
She is no better than the Tories, the father of her children runs a global mining company based in the Seychelles, a tax haven black listed by the OECD.
It’s there for all to see!!
Vote green ,its the only sensible choice.
She’s unelectable. Why on earth didn’t the greens chose a more appropriate contender? She lost my support when she adopted a do as I say but not as I do attitude in The Countryman saga. A vote for her is a vote wasted, she might talk the green talk, but that’s all she does.
Her supporters look like the dregs of society
‘Lowthion and her supporters then gave away leaflets and posters ‘
Putting more paper and card into bins and skips. Very green indeed.
I have already binned the Lib Dem leaflet, not received the others yet
or the poxy polling cards.
They are just creating extra waste for the bin men to takeaway!
Got my vote. I do hope we get a Green MP.
I’m a Caulkhead by birth and been off Island for many years but that dame gets my goat. Fingers in many pies and getting others fingers burnt in process. Perpetual politico.
Before you ever consider a vote for the green knit your own clothes brigade look at what they did to Brighton, it will take a generation to put right the damage they caused.
