GRASS VERGE PARKING ON MILITARY ROAD COULD BE BANNED UNDER NEW PROPOSALS

The Isle of Wight Council wants to ban people from parking on grass verges along Military Road. Motorists currently park at the side of the road around Brook and Compton to avoid paying to park in the National Trust-owned car parks, or when the car parks are full. But under new proposals, such parking would be banned. It is proposed to extend a clearway and erect signs specifically banning parking on verges or pavements in the immediate vicinity of Hanover Point (Compton) and Brook. It is also proposed to introduce the same restriction around Chine Lane, near Atherfield. These proposals are among 30 new parking restrictions that could be brought in across the West Wight, for which the local authority is seeking residents’ views.
