It is the turn of residents in the West of the Island to have their say over changes to parking restrictions with the launch of a new consultation from Isle of Wight Council. More than 30 locations including Freshwater, Yarmouth and Totland, as well as Brighstone, Shalfleet and Shorwell, are the subject of a consultation on the proposed changes. In addition, 1 site in Rookley has been added. The proposals have originated through suggestions made by members of the public or local councillors and the deadline for comments is 8th March. The consultation contains details of draft Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) – these usually relate to changes to traffic issues such as double yellow lines, limited waiting bays, loading bays etc. Isle of Wight Council works with Town, Parish and Community Councils and local ward councillors to ensure proposals that are generated and reach this stage have already had some degree of public support. Comments of support and objections can only be legally considered if a full address is given whether the response is given by the online survey or in by letter or email. The consultation can be found on the council’s web site at https://www.iow.gov.uk/council-and-councillors/consultations-and-engagement/traffic-regulation-order-consultations/district-6-traffic-regulation-order-consultation/.

Even if there was a 90 per cent against vote by residents to any change, the council would still find reasons to bring them in,
Cars have been parking on all roads for over 100 years without any problems
Corruption at its best from a council and a government that really dont care or have a clue what they are doing to this once Great Britain
In 1971 there were about 15 million cars on UK roads.
In 2023 there were over twice that number. (33 million).
And those cars are generally significantly larger than in the 1970s.
It doesn’t take a genius to realise that will cause problems.
Except the problem is, in most cases, the residents causing obstructions that block the 90% of people using the public highway that aren’t residents.
The problem is exacerbated by the number of vehicles (2 or 3 per household) and the size of modern cars, particularly the trend for people buying zonking great SUV as fashion accessories (most will never be used off-road).
I’m sure the bleaters would change their tune if an ambulance or fire engine can’t get to their house in an emergency.
Whats the use of having a say???? You lot of crooks all ready know what roads you are going to yellow line
What?
A say like “nothing has changed in 100 years”?
The problem is that too many stupid people have too much of a day.
That’s why massive c*ckups like Brexit happen.
The Island needs to BAN parking on Pavements and parking in
Loading Bays!
Regent Street in Shanklin is the worst offender.
Even though there is a cop shop up the Road in Shanklin
that is no deterrent
Yummy tummy’s and Domino’s don’t give a Fcuk where they park
Domino’s park on both sides of Regent Street
The Island is a joke when it come to Traffic Law and Order
Waste of money & time.
Crazy C,owncil at its best.
Does this mean the army of dog walkers that daily block my driveway and cause obstruction to traffic are in for a shock?
I do bloody hope so!!
What’s the point. They will go ahead regardless. Does not matter what residents think. They make a decision and its decided long before we are allowed to say what we think
These suggestions have come from the public. Not the IW Council or Island Roads!
