The village of Godshill is set to come alive later this month (Saturday 31st May) as families gather for PlayFest – a brand-new event celebrating Godshill Play Park.
Although the park quietly opened to the public in November 2024, plans for a grand celebration were put on hold due to poor weather conditions. Now, organisers are ready to mark the occasion in style with a packed day of inclusive activities, performances and entertainment running from 11:00 – 16:00 at Central Mead.
Godshill Play Park has already made headlines as one of the most accessible spaces on the Isle of Wight, featuring the island’s first public wheelchair swing. The park also boasts a variety of play equipment designed for all ages and abilities, placing inclusion and community at the heart of its design.
Saturday’s PlayFest will offer something for everyone, with a line-up that includes a 2km kids’ fun run and a children’s dog show – both open for entry now. Visitors can also look forward to interactive experiences with IW Scouts and 1st Godshill Scouts, as well as energetic displays from Isle of Wight Karate, Theatre Train and YES! Creative Beats.
Music lovers will enjoy a live lunchtime performance from Corrine Atkins, while creative activities like crafting, face painting, sand art and glitter tattoos will keep younger guests entertained.
Classic games such as the egg and spoon and sack races are on offer, along with a unique ‘wheelchair hungry hippo’ challenge designed to be fun and inclusive for all. A bouncy castle, teddy tombola and the Play Fest Letter Quest will add even more variety to the day.
Food and drink options include coffee, cake and ice cream, and there will be opportunities to win prizes in a grand community raffle.
Entry to the event is free, with some activities carrying a small charge or suggested donation. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy a full day out at what promises to be a highlight of the local calendar.
There will be no parking on site, so attendees are asked to car share, use public transport or park responsibly nearby. A limited number of accessible parking spaces can be reserved in advance.
