An elderly man was pronounced dead at the roadside yesterday afternoon (Sunday) as motorists travelling through Yarmouth experienced a significantly lengthy road closure.
As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called just after 14:00 to Tennyson Road, Yarmouth, where a medical emergency took place.
Island Echo understands that the elderly male was waiting at a bus stop when Tennyson Road residents noticed him lying unresponsive on the pavement.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed that, sadly, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The emergency saw Tennyson Road through Yarmouth closed for over 2 hours, with multiple Southern Vectis Routes diverted as several officers and paramedics worked to establish the circumstances of the incident.
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“Emergency services were called just after 2:00 pm yesterday (Sunday 13 September) to Tennyson Road to a man suffering from a suspected medical emergency.
“The man was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The next of kin have been informed, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
