A new and unique ‘Honey Bee Experience’ has been officially launched at Godshill Orchard, offering visitors the chance to get up close with nature – and even sleep alongside the bees themselves.
The venture has been pioneered by the father-and-son team of Rob and Simeon Medway.
The official opening ceremony took place last Wednesday (25th June) and was performed by Peter Barfoot of Barfoots of Botley – known as ‘The Sweetcorn King’ – together with his wife Angela.
The pair enjoyed a full bee experience session followed by an overnight stay in the specially designed therapy cabin, which allows guests to sleep next to the hive and benefit from its calming sounds and scents.
Peter Barfoot has said:
“What a great experience and so relaxing.”
Angela Barfoot has said:
“A unique and tasty experience which gave me a new vision of the honey bees.”
The Bee Therapy Experiences, which are unique to the Isle of Wight, include a guided walk through Godshill’s orchards, opportunities to make beeswax candles, taste a range of bee products and visit Vivienne’s Larder farm shop. Guests can also explore the Apiary Viewing Room to learn more about bee behaviour and research.
Both day experiences and overnight ‘sleep with the bees’ sessions are available in limited numbers through July and August.
