Firefighters tackled a small garage fire on Binstead estate near Ryde overnight.
3 appliances – from Newport and Ryde – were called to Hamilton Road off Wellington Road at around 01:30 this morning (Monday).
Crews discovered that a propane cylinder at the rear of the garage was involved, which may account for some of the loud ‘bangs’ heard by local residents.
Police were also sent to the incident, but it is unknown if the fire is being treated as suspicious.
The fire was extinguished and the area cooled down prior to the departure of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service from the scene.
