The falling price of crude oil and a battle between the supermarkets means the price of fuel on the Isle of Wight is continuing to tumble, with 8p per litre knocked off the price of diesel in the past 2 weeks alone.
Throughout June and July prices were at record highs, however, the price of petrol has now fallen 21p per litre from its peak at 189.9, now at 168.9, whilst diesel has dropped 15p from 197.9 to 182.9.
Back in June a typical 60-litre tank would have cost £113.94 to fill, but will now cost £101.34 – a saving of £12.60. That £12.60 saving is enough to power a 40mpg car for another 80 miles.
It was at the start of August that prices finally started to come down at some rate and in the past 2 weeks alone petrol has fallen by 5p and diesel 8p.
These prices are on offer at Tesco on Brading Road in Ryde, but interestingly, at times, they have not been the cheapest option in the East Wight unlike in years gone by. Harwoods, at Wootton, is known for being on the expensive side by has recently been selling fuel several pennies cheaper than supermarket giant Tesco and their competitors, Asda.
Sadly, there are no signs of things going back to how they were in May 2020 when fuel prices were at their lowest point since 2016. The average price of petrol was just 107.6p p/l and diesel at 114.6 p/l.
Brent crude is now coming in at $95.47 a barrel which is around $33 a barrel cheaper than it was 2 months ago – a drop of 25%. Sadly, pump prices haven’t dropped by the same with petrol having come down just 11%.
It’s still blatant profiteering.

Hardly “tumbling” prices, and still far higher than they should be. Supermarkets are just robbing their customers.
And with Asda they can’t even be bothered to have an attendant to rob you. Totally self-service now.
That’s right. I was going to email them to tell them that I wouldn’t be shopping with them or using their petrol station anymore, only to find there is no way of contacting them by email as they do not publish an email address or any other address on their website. Funny that.
Probably because of the the idiot’s who drive off and don’t pay .
But at least they only take £1 and then the balance of fuel you have ….

It’s not just supermarkets, service stations are the same. Apparently the price of a barrel came down in March. But these Greedy people have been screwing the customers over. I’ve started Hypermiling and get an extra 64.8 miles to the tank, I did not realize how driving differently could save you so much. My car meriva B diesel 1700. Has a 54 litre tank. 1.2 miles a litre does not seem much but it adds up over a tank. Car was doing 8.4 to litre now doing 9.6 a litre. That’s local running.
Still too expensive.
The Government need to do more to help families.
Why families? Kind of excludes single people who make different lifestyle choices.
Single working people get NOTHING.
and pensioners, we have the worst pensions in europe, based on a 40 hour working week pensioners get just over £5 per hour plus there are two tiers of pensions with older pensioners £50 a month worse off than people who have more recently retired
Have to disagree with you there, I have friends who are single and work full time but wages are so poor they have to claim universal credit to manage bills.
Neither does married couple both working either so your not alone on that

Lol. love the percentage comparison in this article. Crude drops 25% and Petrol drops 11% that’s because the Governments tax take hasn’t dropped 25% which is the main cost of fuel.

The cuts have to be passed on to motorists regardless of status , totally ridiculous that the price cuts haven’t been as quick to hit us as the the price increases.
Shame on those profiteering from the drivers …..
