Cross-Solent operator Red Funnel has cancelled a total of 24 sailings across today (Tuesday) and tomorrow due to fuel contamination.
It’s said that the issue on board Red Eagle means that the ferry has had to be removed from service.
Engineers are working to rectify the issue, but in the meantime, a number of timetabled sailings have been pulled.
The following sailings have been cancelled for Tuesday and Wednesday:
Depart Southampton: 05:00, 08:00, 11:00, 14:00, 17:00, 20:15
Depart East Cowes: 06:30, 09:30, 12:30, 15:30, 18:30, 21:45
Red Funnel says they are in the process of contacting affected customers and offering them alternative sailings.

Well dear, they did say it was a ‘big job’ but didn’t know they were referring to a No 2 in the tank.

Red funnel have a play book in much the same way defence solicitors trot out the same old lame excuses, red funnel have a winter and summer excuse book, there is probably a team of three of four whose sole employment is to come up with excuses for cancellations, agree they have been very busy of late but not too worry soon be tme for the winter schedule and a whole new book of excuses.,
They are a private company with no legal obligation to run a single service. If they wanted to cancel a service for any reason – they can! They don’t need to give any reason or lie about anything. People will still use them regardless.
