UPDATED: The roof of the former rugby clubhouse at Perowne Way in Sandown, which has stood derelict for a number of years, has collapsed.
The roof caved in on itself at around 19:00 yesterday evening (Sunday) leaving a large hole in the structure.
Thankfully, the area has been fenced off for sometime and therefore there have been no injuries and there is currently no risk to the public.
A spokesperson for Sandown & Shanlin Rugby Football Club has said:
“The club had been in the process of negotiating the management and ownership of the old Clubhouse and returning it to Sandown & Shanklin RFC, however with the council taking time with decision, the Clubhouse run out of time.
“When more news come forward regarding the next step, we will advise you all”.
UPDATE @ 12:10 – A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council has today said:
“The Isle of Wight Council is currently assessing the damage to the building and expect to make a decision on a way forward in the next few days.”
