A yellow weather warning for fog is now in force across the Isle of Wight, with hazardous driving conditions expected over the next 14 hours.
Local forecasters IW Met Service say that fog patches will develop quickly this evening (Monday) and will become widespread and dense by early morning.
The fog is much less likely to affect the south coast of the Island and any fog in more Eastern parts will clear around dawn. Elsewhere the fog may linger until mid-morning, but gradually clearing from the southeast at time goes on.
Motorists can expect very poor visibility, locally extremely poor, leading to hazardous driving conditions.
An additional hazard will be localised icy conditions due to patches of freezing fog, where fog drifts into areas of below freezing temperatures.
Travel and transport delays are likely including cross-Solent travel, especially Red Funnel’s vehicle ferry and Red Jet services.
The warning is in force from now until 10:00 tomorrow (Tuesday 18th).
