Many roads are underwater this afternoon (Tuesday) as the Island continues to be hit by adverse weather conditions, including strong gales and heavy rain.
Avenue Road in Sandown is badly flooded, as is Sandown Road between Lake and Shanklin.
Further north, Rowborough Lane at Brading is flooded in several locations, including at the roundabout junction with High Street. There is significant flooding in Binstead on the main Ryde to Newport road.
Meanwhile, in Newport, Coppins Bridge – the busiest junction on the Isle of Wight – is flooding as the rain continues to fall and the River Medina rises.
Coastal roads are treacherous with waves overtopping sea defences. The Esplanade at East Cowes is currently impassable and at Ryde, the tide is extremely high which has resulted in Wightlink’s Fastcat service and Island Line trains being suspended.
The edge of Newport Harbour became unclear as the River Medina burst its banks with water covering the main access road to Riverside Centre.
2 weather warnings remain in force until 18:00 tonight, although the clouds are starting to clear as dusk arrives.
