High river levels across parts of the Isle of Wight over the next 3 days may lead to localised flooding, with areas around the Eastern Yar particularly at risk from the early hours of tomorrow morning (Saturday).
Further rainfall is forecast throughout today and into the weekend, with up to 15mm expected. If this rain impacts the Eastern Yar catchment, flooding may affect low-lying land, roads, cycle tracks and footpaths situated near the river.
At Langbridge and Alverstone, river levels are expected to be close to bank full. Flooding of Golf Links Road and Morton Common Road is anticipated to continue into the weekend.
Ditches around Fort Holiday Park are also expected to struggle with drainage while water levels remain high.
The Environment Agency has confirmed it is continuing to monitor rainfall and river levels, and that sluices at Bembridge are in operation.
Residents in affected areas, including Alverstone, are advised to consider activating any flood protection products they have in place.

Won’t be too long before there’s an hosepipe ban.
So a question. If we are having all this flooding at Morton Common, Fort holiday park now what is it going to be like once Southern Water does this so call improvement to Sandown Water treatment place. Which will have pumped water from the waterworks all the way up to Alverstone and then to joins the river yar and comes all the way back down towards Sandown waterworks (Morton Common area)
Good to hear that our beloved Councillors are taking action to avoid this flooding.
The Economy, Regeneration, Transport & Infrastructure Committee are going to approve the Island Transport Plan 4.
The aim of which “represents a major shift in approach and emphasis, with an increased focus on policies which avoid the need for travel” and according to Boojum & Snark, is “Very Good”.
Islanders will not have to travel, so the Council can continue to build on flood plains and virtue signalling about “Climate Change”.
Just a pity they can’t stop it raining.
