The Cowes to East Cowes Floating Bridge has this lunchtime (Tuesday) been suspended due to the high tide being experienced in Cowes.
The Floating Bridge website says:
“Ferry Status 4th January @ 1145 – The Cowes Floating Bridge is currently suspended owing to an exceptionally high tide. Please check back for updates.”
A council spokesperson has blamed exceptionally ‘high tides’ and ‘low pressure’ as the reason behind being pulled from service.
“Owing to an exceptionally high tide we’ve had to suspend the floating bridge.
“It is not possible to operate the launch as the west pontoon is flooded.
“We hope to be able to resume the service by around 2.45pm.”
The chain-ferry is currently moored up at East Cowes.
Members of staff are at either side of the river apologising to customers and advising them of the suspension.
Motorists are to divert via Newport.
UPDATE: 13:50 – The Floating Bridge has now returned to service.
