UPDATED: The Cowes Floating Bridge has been taken out of action this afternoon (Wednesday).
It appears that the service has been brought to a halt on the Cowes side of the River Medina, despite the Council stating on its website that the service is ‘running to timetable’.
The gates have been shut and those trying to cross between Cowes and East Cowes have been told ‘something has broke’.
A workman appears to be on site already and is currently up and down a ladder, paying particular attention to the front of the vessel.
A barge used to push the chain ferry into position due to the strong tides remains alongside Floating Bridge No. 6.
UPDATE @ 17:25 – The Isle of Wight Council have confirmed that the floating bridge is currently out of action due to a snapped west prow cable.
The Jenny boat is now in service for foot passengers until 19:00 tonight, after which the water taxi will be in place.
Floating Bridge No. 6 has now been taken to the East Cowes side of the river.
UPDATE THURSDAY @ 07:39 – The Cowes Floating Bridge appears to remain out of action this morning.
