A yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for the Isle of Wight with forecasters warning that there is a risk of flash flooding tomorrow morning (Friday).
It’s said that an area of heavy showers with the risk of some torrential, thundery downpours will develop during the early hours of Friday morning, potentially bringing the risk of some very heavy rainfall to the Island – perhaps up to 30mm.
Lightning and gusty winds are an additional hazard around the heaviest downpours.
The warning is in force from 04:00 until 12:00 tomorrow lunchtime (Friday 18th August).
Jamie Russell, Chief Forecaster at IW Met Service, says:
“There is considerable uncertainty as to where the downpours will develop with some of the models showing the risk of showers and thunderstorms developing just to the south of the island and then moving across our area, but other models show the showers and thunderstorms developing much closer to the island or perhaps even to our north, missing the island completely.
“So for now we have reluctantly issued a warning to cover the former scenario. We may update or even cancel this warning over the coming 12 hours, depending on the model’s handling of the upcoming conditions”.

Weather is for nerds
Until it affects you personally, such as flooding your property, you are affected by a lightning strike, or a road being closed due to a tree down because of strong winds.
The chance then exists you will then complain that there was no warning issued!

They will blame the climate change, we have had weather like this for years and years.
It is just nature doing what it does.
OMG you really are one of the last of the climate change deniers. No one is saying it has not happened before. It’s the frequency and severity. 50 years ago it was once in a lifetime event to have flooding in August. Now it’s every year. And when it does happen it is significantly worse. Go talk to any farmer, they will tell you, the weather is broken. What is bad is, if climate change is real and we do nothing as you want, it’s game over man. By working to reduce our impact on the environment we give ourselves a chance. And the worst thing that happens if I am wrong is that the air is cleaner and the traffic is quieter.
