The sighting of a red para flare in the skies above Cowes led to a search by Coastguard Officers and Police last night (Saturday).

At 22:42 The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to conduct a shoreline search in Cowes as a result of a number of emergency calls to Solent Coastguard.

Coastguard officers searched between Trinity Landing and Egypt Point, but nothing was found.

Intelligence from a beach fisherman directed teams further inland. The parks leading upto, and including, the grounds of Northwood House were searched. But again, nothing was found.

Police joined their HM Coastguard colleagues on the ground.

The incident was brought to a close at around 01:15 this morning.
