Firefighters have responded to the village of St Helens this evening (Wednesday) over concerns about a fire in the garden of a property on The Diggings.
It was just before 18:00 that concerned locals alerted Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to the situation, believed to be a large and possibly out of control bonfire in the rear garden of a residential property.
Large plumes of smoke and flames several feet high prompted multiple 999 calls.
1 fire appliance from Ryde is now on scene at The Diggings with firefighters working to extinguish the fire.
Locals are advising their neighbours to close windows and doors due to the smoke in the air.
