Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is in attendance at a commercial premises in the heart of Newport this morning (Sunday), with firefighters making entry into the building.
3 appliances from Newport and Cowes, plus the Aerial Ladder Platform from Newport, are on scene at St Cross Lane off Crocker Street – behind Lidl supermarket.
Firefighters have donned breathing apparatus and have entered the Exchange House building armed with a single hose reel jet.
The Isle of Wight Law Center, Churchers Solicitors and Brightbrown Accountants all occupy the property.
The alarm was raised shortly before 10:10.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that the fire was located on the ground floor of the building. However, the cause has not yet been specified.
In total 4 breathing apparatus and 2 hose reel jets were used to contain and extinguish the fire, with positive pressure ventilation used to rid smoke from the property.
Police attended the scene but it has been confirmed that the fire is not being treated as suspicious and is not being investigated by officers.
