Firefighters from Ryde have criticised the ‘irresponsible’ lighting of a campfire in the middle of a forest clearing.
1 appliance from Ryde was mobilised at around 09:10 this morning (Monday) after being alerted to the fire by a member of the public.
The fire was set in a very dry clearing at Combley Wood near Havenstreet. It had already started to creep under a layer of pine needles.
Firefighters say it was a long way to access water due to the remote location of the campfire.
Today’s incident comes less than 24 hours after firefighters from Freshwater had to extinguish a bonfire in woodland at Fort Victoria near Yarmouth.

There have been camp/party fires in Pig Leg Lane nature reserve too. Loads of litter of which we cleared. Can only be bored teens.
Kids should be taught to respect the countryside. In fact they should be taught to respect everyone and everything. Some of them have zero manners and are extremely rude.
They need to go back to school . Get them all open !
Can’t see any mention of kids being involved could be careless campers catch them make them pay for the emergency services
I’ ll bet you a tenner munchy it was youths…make that a ton.
I’ll 2nd that bet
