UPDATED: Firefighters are assisting the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service with a time critical incident in Ryde tonight (Tuesday).
1 fire appliance has been mobilised to The London on Swanmore Road, where paramedics are attending to a seriously unwell patient.
2 ambulances are currently on scene.
The call for assistance was received by the fire service sometime around 21:50.
Swanmore Road is currently blocked between Hill Street and Milligan Road. Traffic should divert locally.
UPDATE 23:20 – As the night progresses emergency resources remain on scene at The London – a sheltered housing complex.
An ambulance service officer has now arrived and is thought to be accompanied by a doctor from St Mary’s Hospital.p, indicating the severity of the patient’s condition.
UPDATE @ 23:32 – The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been called to Ryde to assist with the incident.
The helicopter is currently circling the town with a spotlight shining in order to find an appropriate landing site.
UPDATE @ 00:26 – After more than 2 hours the patient has been transferred into an awaiting ambulance.
However, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has not airlifted the casualty to a mainland hospital as expected. The yellow and green helicopter landed in Simeon Street Rec shortly before midnight but has since departed and is returning to its base in Andover.
