The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire in the open this evening (Sunday).
A single appliance from East Cowes was mobilised to Kingston Copse off of Saunders Way at 22:20.
Firefighters were alerted to the woodland following a 999 call from a member of public.
The retained crew used 1 hose reel jet to douse the flames and extinguish the fire.
Before leaving the scene, they dampened down the immediate area to prevent any hot spots reigniting.
Approximately 200 gallons (900 litres) of water was used to bring the fire under control.
Crews have now returned to station.
This is the second incident today in which there has been a fire service response to fires in the open.
Earlier on today, firefighters were called to a coastal path that runs behind Ventnor Botanic Gardens – 2 appliances and a water carrier was used to extinguish 2 fires..
