FIRE CREWS TACKLE BIN LORRY BLAZE AT BIFFA


imageUPDATED: Firefighters from Newport and Cowes are in attendance at Biffa on Newport Industrial Estate this evening (Tuesday), where a lorry has caught fire. 

Two appliances were called to the scene on Manners View at shortly after 19:00, where it was discovered a large refuse lorry had caught fire.

4 breathing apparatus, 2 main jets and 2 hose reels are being used to tackle the blaze, which has caused slight damage to 2 other lorries.

imageUPDATE @ 20:15 – The fire has now been extinguished by the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

It is thought an electrical fault is to blame.

Nearby St John’s Ambulance evacuated as black smoke billowed towards the building. Thankfully, no persons have been injured in the incident.

Crews remain on scene damping down.
