Appliances from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been mobilised to reports of a fire within a flat in Ryde this evening (Friday).
Fire crews from Ryde, Newport and Sandown are in attendance at an address on Monkton Street – between Park Road and St Johns Hill – having been alerted to the incident at around 21:45.
A duty fire officer is also at the scene.
Southern Vectis’ Routes 3 and 8 buses leaving Ryde will use Bennett Street whilst the road is blocked by the fire appliances.
Passengers wishing to board at Monkton Street should make their way to Railway Pub and make themselves seen by their bus drivers.
UPDATE SATURDAY – It has been confirmed that a small oven fire was to blame for the incident.
No serious damage has been caused and the occupants of the flat – and neighbouring flats – escaped without injury.

UPDATED SATURDAY MORNING: It has been confirmed that firefighters were called to the premises following an oven fire within one of the flats.
Thanks to working smoke and fire alarms, all other flats within the complex, were evacuated quickly and escaped any injury.
The fire was put extinguished and the property hasn’t been severely damaged.
