The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been called to an outbuilding fire in Freshwater this afternoon (Wednesday).
Firefighters from Freshwater and Newport were mobilised to reports of an outbuilding fire at Camp Road shortly before 14:30.
The fire was caused by a blow torch that was being used on roofing felt, which subsequently set fire to roof timbers.
Crew wearing breathing apparatus (BA) used COBRA and a hose reel jet to successfully prevent the fire from spreading.
They have been able to extinguish the fire quickly to save the building with just a minor amount of smoke damage.
Who ever was working on that rooftop must have been the chuckle brothers, to you, to me, to you, to me…

My comment was part of the chuckle brothers act, they made people laugh,
they put a smile on our faces, it’s a complement to remember them for what they did.

Well our household has yet to come to terms with it too.
But Clare wasn’t being insensitive by keeping the masters of slapsticks name in the lime light.
I am sure Barry and his family would be proud to be a ‘household’ name for future generations to muse over and research there timeless antics as people refer to them for other mishaps in the future.
A modern Laurel and Hardy, who in my opinion deserve to not be forgotten.
