Wightlink and Red Funnel are both experiencing delays and cancellations on their ferry services to and from the Isle of Wight this evening (Wednesday).
On Wightlink’s Fishbourne-Portsmouth route, an issue with the linkspan is resulting in 45 minute delays for those crossing the Solent.
Passengers have been stuck on board for a considerable amount of time, according to Island Echo readers. It’s understood the 17:00 from Portsmouth has been delayed as a result of the inbound ferry being unable to unload vehicles.
Meanwhile, on Red Funnel’s East Cowes to Southampton service, a number of sailings have been cancelled due to a lack of critical crew.
The 18:00 and 21:00 from East Cowes have been pulled alongside the 19:30 from Southampton.

Nothing more can be said poor services very poor contingency plan if any , hope there’s not a major incident on this island .
Breakdowns occur but constant breakdowns equal poor maintenance, poor management and zero contingency planning .. the exact same problem as the IWC FB6 useless asset . Pity the MP talks a lot.. but does nothing to improve things ..

There will NEVER be a bridge or a tunnel. No chance of a bridge over one of the busiest shipping lanes in Europe. The cost would be astronomical and there is no possible justification for spending such a vast amount of money. NO chance of a tunnel because it would cost over £5 billion for very little financial return. No one is ever going to build a bridge or a tunnel just for a few holiday makers and tiny local population.
Yet the Isle of Sky has a bridge and bridge building technology has come a long way since 1992. No fixed link means no future for the IOW, therefore will always be the poor cousin to the mainland.
Because the distance is tiny and there is no shipping.
RF have had issues with staff for ages, from what I can gather the working conditions for those who steer are not fantastic. Cannot see much happening in the new investment for the E Cowes port.
