Well-known radio presenter Alex Dyke is back on Isle of Wight airwaves following the launch of a new nostalgia-themed station.
The popular broadcaster has rejoined Isle of Wight Radio to front weekend shows on Isle of Wight Radio Retro, a fresh service dedicated to music from the 1970s through to the 1990s.
His return comes some 18 years after he last appeared on the station, with his Bubblegum and Cheese show now airing every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00.
The Retro station, which launched last weekend (Sunday 20th April) and is available on DAB, online and via smart speakers, offering listeners an additional choice focused on classic hits.
A number of familiar voices also feature across the schedule, including Jenni Costello on weekday breakfast and Nick Osborne on the Drive Home slot, which includes his ‘Dinnertime Disco’.
Evenings continue into the night with The Nightshift from 22:00, bringing a mix of soul and funk to late-night listeners.
On his return to radio on the Island, Alex has said:
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be coming home to Isle of Wight radio, this time for their brand-new DAB Retro service. I was last there 18 years ago. Since then I’ve been working for the BBC on regional programs, network programs, on television on BBC South Today, TalkTV and GB News. I’ve also been touring with Fred Dinenage in a theatre show dedicated to the Krays called ‘Ronnie, Reggie & Me,’ as well as promoting various live music shows at Shanklin Theatre. I’ve been very, very busy but am delighted to be returning to my radio home.
“My happiest times on the radio were at Isle of Wight Radio. I’m so passionate about the Island. I have invested in a Glamping/Camping site Retro Staycations. I love living here and I can’t wait to be bringing back the good times with Bubblegum And Cheese on the new Retro service, Saturday 10:00. Let’s go!”
