UPDATED: A large tree has fallen across the carriageway at Sandown Road in Bembridge this evening (Friday).
The road between Bembridge and Yaverland is blocked in both directions as a result of the incident on the section of road that passes through Steyne Woods.
Motorists are being forced to divert via Hillway Road whilst Island Roads contractors are deployed to the scene.
It is expected to take some time to clear the well-aged tree.
UPDATE @ 21:28 – Sandown Road has now re-opened to traffic in both directions.
