Shanklin and Sandown Rotary Clubs are set to hold a 5K beach run along the length of Sandown Bay on Saturday 11th July – but it’s not as easy as it may sound.
‘Dash & Splash’ will be an unique event in that the runners will be dashing along the hard sand at low tide and then splashing mostly ankle deep around some of the groynes which jut out into the water.
Most of the groynes will be clear of the water and have gaps to run through, but around 20% will be splashed around.
The run starts at Shanklin’s old pier apron and finishes at Yaverland Sailing Club, where there will be a BBQ, music and a bar.
Along the route 5 bands will be performing plus on the water will be a regatta by Shanklin Sailing Club, who will be competing with the runners to the finish.
The event kicks off at 13:00 and all the money raised by the event will go to support the Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat.
The run is open to all ages with a £5 entry fee for those under 14 and a £8 entry fee for those over 14.
