Police, fire and ambulance crews are attending a road traffic collision in Cowes this afternoon (Friday).
The incident, which has involved an unknown number of vehicles, has occurred on Victoria Road, close to the local fire station and chip shop.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 16:10.
A ‘sea’ of blue lights can be seen with 2 fire appliances from Newport and Cowes in attendance. Residents say cutting equipment is being used.
Police have closed the road in both directions.
Southern Vectis say their Route 1 buses are diverting via Bellevue Road and Brooklands Road until further notice.
UPDATE @ 17:10 – The roof of a car has been removed by fire crews in order to free a casualty.
The individual is now being taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
UPDATE @ 18:02 – The road has now re-opened and Southern Vectis buses are returning to a normal route.

Lets hope just trapped and not badly hurt.
Maybe cut speed limits until the hospital can cope when CV cases ease again.
Anyone breaking such looses car, such tough action might stop all but the car joy rider thieves, and thus limit accident admissions to our tiny, but full hospital.
Unpopular, sure, but all effective action always will be.
Let’s hope any innocents in this are not badly hurt.
Should be at home on lockdown!!!!
Or an essential worker on their way home from a grueling long shift at a key place of work.
Have some compassion and pull your arrogant head out of your backside.
Typical shortsighted, inbred islander comment, well done, very constructive.

How do you know they were speeding? Not everyone break speed limits
They also maybe on the way home from work!!
Where is this article does it say a woman driver
Yes you should keep your opinion to yourself
Bet you’re a catch!
And another one
Sometimes when I read the comments on here I wonder what sort of age and intellect you people are. It is really quite embarassing and worrying. Where does it state speeding was involved? What sort of person thinks it’s humour (or otherwise) to make a comment a car is now a convertible after someone has had to be cut out of a vehicle. What a truly sick and ‘sad’ lot you all are!! Let’s hope it never happens to you….disgusting!!
Come on. We all know this crash was because neither drivers had Covid symptoms i.e nothing.
