Police, fire and ambulance crews are responding to a crash on the main road into Rookley at Pagham this morning (Tuesday).
The incident has occurred on the A3020 Main Road between the junctions of Rookley Country Park and Pagham Lane, forcing the closure of the Godshill to Rookley road.
Island Echo is told that a vehicle has left the carriageway and has careered up a small bank, coming to rest in a hedge. This happened shortly before 07:55.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has 2 appliances on scene with crews working to free those trapped within the wreckage. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has also mobilised a number of resources.
The road is blocked in both directions with motorists being turned around and diverted locally.
Southern Vectis Route 3 and 63 buses are not able to serve Blackwater Hollow, Rookley or Pagham and are diverting via Merstone until further notice.
UPDATE @ 08:46 – It has been confirmed that the crash has involved a white Suzuki Vitara and another vehicle.
A woman has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital as a precautionary measure but has escaped any serious injury.
The road remains closed in both directions whilst recovery is completed.

More top quality driving on the Isle of Wight
The suzuki was not at fault at all – the other car pulled out on them. Perhaps don’t comment on stuff you have no idea about.
Did somebody say the Suzuki was at fault? I didn’t see that…
No one has said the Suzuki was to blame!!
Perhaps don’t comment on stuff you have no idea about…
Why not.
You seem to have made a career out of it.
A career out of what? Please explain…are you a witness, was you there?…or are you just another idiot taking something that you shouldn’t??
Your usual boring comment i see.
Can’t park there sir
Wow! That’s an original comment. I bet you’re chuffed to bits with yourself.
2 fire engines to free people from the wreckage?? It has damaged wing.
That’ll be 4 filling out the risk assessment, 3 putting out cones, 2 on the internet to find out how to open the door, 2 to open the door, 2 more to assist the non injured driver and one to take pictures to put up on Facebook. Meanwhile the rest of the crew look on to see if they can tick off an NVQ module….
Obviously many road users do not know how to keep left of centre line…
only the island drivers
Pretty much all drivers, including you…
Damage looks minimal thus this was probably a low speed crash, yet on the Island our Police seem obsessed with speeding? Overall driving standards appear to be poor so perhaps its time the Police educated drivers on the Island rather than chase easy targets!
Yes agree with that it’s not speeding they need to focus on driving too slow and not using indicators and staying in lane is more important
Glad everyone is ok could off bern worse
Another pensioner or sill batch doesnt know vehicle width
And you’re the great island driver
Any excuse for rife ageism again!
When did the Vitara change from being a cool beach jeep kinda of thing to a drab boring just another car????
Definatly the Suzuki fault.Dreadful driving
Why not put your real name up if you really feel the need to put shite comments up.
and you know prat
Did the ‘other’ vehicle leave the scene ?
Beats the usual Pavement parking on the Island
you sound like a bunch of squabbling school kids. Glad the lady is OK.
